Grand finale for the 24/25 season

The Teatro de la Maestranza has programmed a special concert as the Grand finale for its 24/25 season with the prestigious Orchestra and Chorus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (National Academy of Santa Cecilia), one of the oldest musical institutions in the world, under its recently named Music Director, British conductor Daniel Harding.

Verdi’s Requiem, one of the greatest works of all 19th century Sacred music. Verdi composed his funeral mass in honour of Alessandro Manzoni who died in May 1873. The work premiered on the date of the first anniversary of the poet’s death. It is a monumental piece which fuses operatic intensity with liturgical solemnity, in an exploration of profound human emotions: fear, hope, redemption. Its dramatic orchestration and imposing choruses have made it an emblem of the liturgical repertoire for all time.
