1994-1995

Opera, zarzuela, dance, prominent soloist performers, piano, recitals, flamenco, concerts by the Seville Symphony Orchestra. Impressive seasons’ series begin to take their place in the annual programme and subscriber numbers increase. In 1995, King Juan Carlos (today emeritus) awarded the title of “Royal” to the Seville Symphony Orchestra.

1993-1994

Besides the concerts of the Seville Symphony Orchestra, the theatre hosted the “Encuentro de Música de Cine and Música de las Naciones”, with performances by soloists and conductors such as Badea, Brouwer, Domingo, Arteta, Roa, Šutej, Ros-Marbà, or the Philip Glass Ensemble with Beauty and the Beast; and Porgy and Bess by Gershwin.

1992-1993

After Expo 92, the theatre became the venue for the Seville Symphony Orchestra whose concerts alternated with others by The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Wiener Symphoniker or the Filarmonica della Scala, as well as the “Festival Internacional de Jazz” and the “Festival Internacional de Danza, Itálica”.

1991-1992

The high level of demand for cultural events by the city of Seville made the construction of a cultural space an absolute necessity. Thanks to the public institutions, the Teatro de la Maestranza was inaugurated by H.M. Queen Sofia on May 2, 1991. The World’s Fair (Expo’92) was a calling card for the most prestigious national and international orchestras, conductors and the most acclaimed voices in opera for a programme which was recognised as truly exceptional.
