One woman, all women
María Pagés, recently awarded the Premio Princesa de Asturias de las Artes, returns to the Teatro de la Maestranza stage - where she has gifted us many memorable evenings -, to dance the sentimental and personal stories of women.
Without subterfuge. Without fear. Without clichés. A native of Sevilla, María Pagés, in a splendid and mature moment of her career, takes a look at those marvellous female characters who put their mark on universal culture -Carmen, Medea, Yerma…- and creates a story in 12 choreographies where these women share their wisdom with the world “as if it were a fan woven together by the force of time, intelligence and emotion”.
In a show conceived with the Moroccan writer and intellectual El Arbi El Harti, and the music of Rubén Levaniegos, Sergio Menem, David Moñiz and María Pagés herself, two female cantaoras and the women of the María Pagés dance company, led by Pagés, perform De Scheherezade, beginning at the end of the famous story. It explores the repertories of popular music and classical traditions, with incursions in Moroccan music to present an integral spectacle that embraces art in an organic way. The show transmits a compassionate vision, with the core idea of sisterhood, in a vindication of the multiple worlds of women.
