Outrageous love affairs by Manuel García

Absurd love affairs. Women who love various men.

The provocative imagination of Carlo Goldoni’s story encased in the musical genius of the Sevillian who was recognised as one of the great European composers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Maestro García -the Sevillian tenor who premiered Rossini’s “Barber of Seville”- led opera to the greatest challenges in the 18th century. A delightful salon opera that is exacting to sing and perform.

It is the 250th anniversary of the birth of a composer who was headed one of the most prolific dynasties of classical music in the world. His daughters María Malibrán and Pauline Viardot and his son Manuel García are part of the history of universal culture.

This production was first seen in 2021 in Madrid at the Fundación Juan March under the applauded musical and stage direction of Rubén Fernández Aguirre and José Luis Arellano. The wonderful costumes by Ikerne Giménez are an authentic reproduction of a period of ostentation and luxury.

In recognition of his creative capacity, but above all, of his artistry and teaching vocation, the Teatro de la Maestranza pays tribute to Manuel García with a cast selected from auditions that are part of a young artists programme.

This group of artists will demonstrate the excellence and talent of a new generation that is ready to take over. There can be no better recognition for one of the most demanding maestros of all.
