The dance of the Magnificat
The company directed by French dancer and choreographer, Michel Kelemenis, has created a stage for the famous Magnificat by J. S. Bach, with musical arrangements by the contemporary composer Angelos Liaros-Copola.
This is the most recent proposal from the artist who was born in Toulouse and lives in Marseille. He began his career in the “Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier”, under the leadership of Dominique Bagouet, who he considers a maestro and essential reference point.
In 1987, he founded Kelemenis & cie and established it in the city of Marseille as a centre for choreography and creativity. Shows are developed and produced here, and have travelled around the world. Since 2011, he also leads “KLAP Maison pour la danse”, an artistic institution that focuses on, and gives visibility to, choreographic presentations; and which shares the same space with his own dance company.
Dance as obsession. Dance as expression. Dance as an art that calls together music, scenography, even literary expression. Magnifiques is an ode to dance and youth. Nine dancers expressing the musical imagination of Liaros-Copola, pay tribute to Bach and the immortality of his work. A show which is pure delight, pure life.
