Pippi Longstocking

Proyecto LUNA is a project where primary school age children work alongside conservatory and music school students of all levels. Each school year an unpublished musical story is composed specifically for the project and is assembled by the students. Composers and librettists from Andalusia are preferably commissioned.

In this way, the students of primary school age make up the choir and the conservatory and music school students form the orchestra.

During the year, all the participating schools work in their own classrooms, using the same pedagogical subject-matter. Each term, they have joint rehearsals. At the end of the year, and thanks to the collaboration with the “Fundación Goñi y Rey”, the piece is premiered in a grand concert at the Maestranza. Full of light and creativity, the audience watches hundreds of young people of all ages enjoying each other’s company and making music together.

For this occasion, the piece is Pippi Longstocking, a cantata for choir and orchestra by composer Rafael Cañete. It tells the story of a special little girl who lives alone with her monkey and horse in a beautiful villa. With her bright orange braids, original clothes and enormous strength, Pippi will discover that each day is a never-ending opportunity to play and to dream.
