Breaking down stereotypes

In this Bizet year, the cultural association “Más que Ópera” (Making Opera Lovers), conceived to spread Bel canto and attract new audiences, brings us an empowered Carmen of the 21st century. An original concept that uses every device to bring music and the power of its stories closer to us.

These shows are addressed to young audiences; and are produced and performed by young people. It is a “one to one” dialogue free of barriers and resistance. Face to face with tradition from a younger generation’s perspective.

¿Why Carmen? Because of her strength of character, and her independent and free spirit. Because it is an opportunity to talk about emancipated women and the violence to which they are and have been subjugated. Because Carmen is a legend which deserves to be interpreted with today’s convictions regarding equality and rights.

Because this is a beautiful musical score which entices us. Because it is a story that excites and touches us. Because it carries a myth’s everlasting imprint. Because there are different perceptions of Carmen for each and every one of us.

The woman who wanted to be free. The Carmen we would like to be. Because Carmen becomes an experience. Because it is the boys and girls of today who create and recreate her.

Because Ópera Kids believes in the power of music as the most wonderful and compelling of life’s lessons.
