Couple exchange

If one puts love to the test of fidelity, there might be a bitter surprise. Two officials, convinced of the loyalty of their fiancées accept the challenge to exchange partners. The girls give themselves over to the romance. Betrayal lurks close by.  Are these women unfaithful and fickle by nature or are they simply free thinkers who make fun of arrogance and masculine superiority? 

After The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni, Mozart and his librettist da Ponte completed their perceptive trilogy about human nature with a lesson about the fragility of love. This opera is a masterpiece of vocal theatre and high comedy: light-hearted and profound, piquant yet melancholic, Così fan tutte is the operatic testimony of a precocious wise man called Mozart.  A provocative piece which the young Sevillian director Rafael R. Villalobos brings to the stage in a new co-production between the Teatro de la Maestranza and the Teatro Calderón de Valladolid.

A young generation of celebrated voices and promising Mexican conductor Iván López-Reynoso will lead the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, injecting new lifeblood in this enduring comedy.
