Planting the seeds of Dance

The Teatro de la Maestranza, the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía and the Accademia del Piacere premiere a show which demonstrates the strength that comes from unity in a coproduction. It is a rhapsody in seven acts under the stage direction and choreography of Patricia Guerrero and the musical direction of Fahmi Alqhai. A world premiere at the Teatro de la Maestranza.

Guerrero and Alqhai, accompanied by the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía and the Accademia del Piacere create a dialogue of music and dance in search of a common past and present, a universal via of fellowship between peoples and cultures. Two styles which embrace and intermingle. A common path between flamenco and the historical tradition of Spanish music.

Following on from a brilliant career with her own troupe, the dancer has returned as a choreographer and Artistic Director of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia, the place where she began in 2011. With the same excitement, wisdom of years, and experiences. A premiere that is a statement of intentions. Another step forward for a woman who has danced both classic Spanish ballet and Andalusian dance, who has performed the unforgettable “Bella Otero” with the National Ballet of Spain, and has shared the stage with figures such as Mario Maya or Rubén Olmo. She was awarded the National Dance Award in 2021.

Fahmi Alqhai worked with the most important Ancient Music chamber ensembles on the international circuit during the first years of his career. Then, in 1988, he began his career as a soloist, specializing in German repertoire for the viola da gamba. In 2002, he and soprano Mariví Blasco founded the ensemble Accademia del Piacere, with Alqhai as its director. There are six recordings by the group, and aside from Baroque music, it has extended its interest to other musical styles such as flamenco, contemporary music and jazz. Since 1988, he is also the director of the annual Ancient Musica Festival of Seville - Festival de Música Antigua de Sevilla (FeMÀS).

Two individuals and two companies whose creativity is boundless as they continue to sow new seeds.
